Listening To God Speak To Me
“When I come to the Word of God, the author Himself is present to instruct me. I never discover truth; truth is revealed.” From Experiencing God – Henry Blakaby & Claude KingWhat To Do
1. Pray for cleansing before starting to read.
“If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer.” Psalm 66:18,19, NIVIniquity –Making my own decisions without regard to God’s plans.
Before you read, ask God to show you;
If there…is a Sin to confess.
If there…is a Promise to claim.
If there…is an Attitude for me to change.
If there…is a Command for me to obey.
If there…is an Example for me to follow.
2. Pray and ask God to speak to you and direct you to a verse, or continue the reading plan that you feel God has already led you to.
3. Read only until He speaks to you, impresses something on you and/or reveals His truth to you. This is normally something that stands out, jumps off the page to you or seems to touch your heart. When God stops you at a verse, write that verse down in your Journal.
Ask God why He stopped you at this point.Ask God for the application of this verse: “How does this apply to me, Lord?”
4. Write a prayer to God as a commitment to apply all He has shown you.
Why Write Out Quiet Times?
Many people find it helpful to write their thoughts along with the scriptures they receive from the Lord during their quiet times, keeping a daily journal of their time with God.
1. It gives you one thought to reflect on each day.
2. It may help you see trends in how God is dealing with you.
If you have a record of the major things, which God has been saying to you over a period of days or weeks, it is often possible to see a pattern. This may help you either with decision-making about the future, understanding the past and present, or both.
3. It gives you something specific to share with others.
4. It will sharpen your mind.
Learning to sift through your reading to determine what is most important will sharpen your mind to do the same thing in other areas such as Bible study, family decisions and counseling.
5. You establish a written commitment of what God has shown you to do.

When It Looks Like I Have Failed, Lord Are You Trying To Tell Me Something?
FAILURE doesn’t mean I’m a failure.
It does mean I haven’t yet succeeded.
FAILURE doesn’t mean I have accomplished nothing.
It does mean that I have learned something.
FAILURE doesn’t mean I have been a fool.
It does mean I had enough faith to experiment.
FAILURE doesn’t mean I’ve been disgraced.
It does mean I dared to try.
FAILURE doesn’t mean I am inferior.
It does mean I am not perfect.
FAILURE doesn’t mean I’ve wasted my life.
It does mean I can start over again.
FAILURE doesn’t mean I should give up.
It does mean I must try harder.
FAILURE doesn’t mean I’ll never make it.
It does mean I need more patience.
FAILURE doesn’t mean YOU have abandoned me.
It does mean YOU have a better idea!
A Few Prayer Secrets
1. Let your gaze be on God, your glance on your requests.
If we allow our gaze to be on our request, it will tell God what we see and what needs to be done. However, if our gaze is on God, we will ask Him to interpret the situation from His viewpoint (tell us what He sees), and to tell us what He wants done.
2. Let prayer be your first choice, not your last.
If we are going to “seek first the kingdom of God,” one of the best ways is to make Him our consultant and advisor.
3. Pray more from conviction than from crisis.
Conviction prayer is praying for a situation on the basis of the known will of God, before the situation occurs. Crisis prayer is praying for a situation that is not going, as it ought to, according to the will of God.Peter Lord, Agape Ministries
